India is considering a ban on 12 plastic products, including cigarette butts, straws, small cutlery, and sticks for ear buds and lollipops, Business Standard reports. But only bottles of under 200 ml size will be barred in what’s a relief to beverage firms. After Prime Minister Modi announced plans to ban single-use plastics, organisations from Air India to Indian Railways to Mahindra & Mahindra extended support. India generates 9.5 million tonnes (paywall) of plastic waste a year, 40% of which remains uncollected.
