The Toyota Glanza premium hatchback will be launched in India on the 6th of June, 2019. Toyota dealers across India have already begun receiving the new car, which is a badge-engineered Maruti Baleno that is built at Suzuki’s factory in Gujarat, and then shipped over to Toyota. The Glanza is Toyota’s first badge engineered car for the Indian market, and the automaker also has plans of exporting this car to specific emerging markets across the world. In Toyota’s Indian line-up, the Glanza will sit above the Liva hatchback in terms of price and positioning. It will be pricier than equivalent variants of the Maruti Baleno though, as is the case with most badge engineered cars. Talking of variants, the Glanza will be offered in two trims: G and V. These trims will be offered with two power train combinations: petrol-manual and petrol automatic. The car will feature the 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine as standard, with 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes offered as options. The petrol motor in question makes 82 Bhp-112 Nm, and will have sufficient pep for the Glanza, which weighs in well under 900 kilograms thanks to the use of the HEARTECT platform. Notably, Maruti Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform uses light weight, high tensile steel extensively, keeping weight low and structural rigidity high. This platform is now a staple across almost all Maruti Suzuki cars sold in India. The Glanza’s G variant is likely to be equivalent to the Maruti Baleno’ Delta trim while the V variant is expected to match the Alpha in terms of equipment on offer. The Glanza will get a slew of safety features as standard across both variants. Twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, seat belt reminders and speed alerts will be standard on the car. As for creature comforts, the top-end trim will get automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, push button start, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, rear wash wipe function with a defogger, factory tinted windows and electrically folding wing mirrors. As for the changes on the outside, the Glanza will look very similar to the Baleno save for the front grille with a dollop of chrome, and Toyota badging at the front and the rear. Even the alloy wheels will be carried over from the Baleno. Toyota is aiming to sell about 2,000 units of the Glanza in India each month, which is less than 1/8th of the numbers that the Baleno does on an average.
